Context: we’re leaving in the middle of next week for our summer vacation and we sent my better half’s 3er to the in laws to take care of some minor bodywork. Her dad loaned us his winter beater.

The better half being better, she made an hostile take over on the FoST so I get to drive the Yaris.

He bought it from an 85yo lady who got sick and had to stop driving.

It’s a 2013 with 15kkm

He got it for like 8k.

I actually kind of like the current Yaris. How is it?

I’ve test driven the previous Yaris with a 5-speed, and it just felt so lifeless. I thought it was strange because I’ve also driven the Scion xA (which I’m pretty sure had the same engine and transmission), and that felt much more peppy and engaging.

Pretty decent.

It’s reasonably “fast” in the sense that it’s not scary, the steering is a bit vague in the middle but precise in parking maneuvers.

It’s well built, cargo space is lacking but headroom and legroom is good, even in the back.

It feels bigger and more powerful than it is.

I have nothing wrong to say, actually.

That is a great deal.

My mom is 82 and has a ‘98 Malibu that has maybe ... 60K. It’s been pampered; so someone, someday, is going to pick up a car with a lot of life left in it for a grand, maybe less. Written off once, I told her to buy it back from the insurance company because she loved it so much. (Also because it would have taken me weeks to take her on all the test drives just so that she could buy another Malibu).
